Sandlin was recently outright to the Buffalo Bisons to make room on the 40 man roster and many believed that he would end up electing free agency from there.

Nick Sandlin clears waivers and elect free agency

The Blue Jays announced this morning that Sandlin has officially cleared waiver as no team took the risk on trying to pick him up and he has now decided to elect free agency.
ROSTER MOVE:

RHP Nick Sandlin has cleared waivers and elected free agency
#BlueJays announce RHP Nick Sandlin has cleared waivers and elected free agency.
This move was expected as many though that once he would be placed on waivers that he would end up clearing them and would elect free agency from there.
While Sandlin did not pitch much this season, he still managed to put up a solid 2.20 ERA in 16.1 innings pitched with 16 strike outs and 1 save to go along with an 0-2 record.
Due to these numbers and his ERA over the last few years with has never been above 4.00, Sandlin should have no trouble landing himself a new major league deal.
This is a bit of a risky move by the Blue Jays because they had a solid relief pitcher in Sandlin and will not have one more hole that they will need to plug.
Hopefully Ross Atkins will be able to find a suitable replacement during the off-season.
