Toronto Blue Jays update on Max Scherzer's possible return

The Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer has entered free agency when his contract expired and the team is now being urged now to bring him back.
Scherzer has been linked to certain teams such as the San Francisco Giants this off-season but many are also wondering if he will return to Toronto due to how well he pitched in the playoffs.
Blue Jays urged to not bring back Max Scherzer
The Blue Jays are looking at different options for their starting rotation this off-season with both Scherzer and Chris Bassitt expected to leave as of right now.
Some are worried that Toronto might look to bring back Scherzer and Bleacher Reports Tim Kelly stated that despite how great he looked in the playoffs, the Blue Jays should look at other options instead of bringing back a 42 year old pitcher.
"Man, it was cool watching Max Scherzer turn back the clock in the postseason and take down meaningful innings for a Toronto Blue Jays team that nearly won the World Series," Kelly wrote Saturday. "That doesn't mean, however, that he's a wise bet moving forward. He'll turn 42 in the middle of next season, and while he was once one of the game's elite workhorses, Scherzer has logged a total of 128.1 innings over the past two seasons." -Kelly
While fans are remembering how great Scherzer was for Toronto in the playoffs, during the season he missed a lot of time due to past injuries with is thumb and back that kept him out the majority of the season.
"But the reality is that before the playoffs, his time north of the border was viewed as a disaster. Whoever signs him for 2026 is much more likely to get that version of him." -Kelly
The free agent market has some great options for pitchers which is why the Blue Jays should look there before bringing Scherzer back on a one year deal.
Trying to land a young pitcher that can grow with this Blue Jays young core would not only be better for the Blue Jays this season but also for their future as they continue to try and compete.
