Former Blue Jays pitcher Zach Pop signs new contract with the Cubs
Many believed that Pop's time in the MLB was done after a couple rough years including a disaster of a 2025 season which split between the Blue Jays, Mariners and New York Mets resulting in a 14.85 ERA in 4 games.
The Cubs announced that they agreed to a minor league deal with Pop and have already assigned him to the Arizona Complex League Cubs where he will try to work his way up and back into the MLB.
Now official, the Cubs signed RHP Zach Pop to a minor league deal. Pop hasn't had good results, but he has velo, features an arsenal with supination traits, and good stuff (113 Stuff+ on Sl, 121 on SL). As an MiLB deal, there's no risk, but some fun upside if something clicks.
The Cubs have signed RHP Zach Pop to a minor league deal. Pop has pitched in the big leagues with the Marlins, Blue Jays, Mariners and most recently, the Mets.
Pop's best season in the MLB was when he first arrived in Toronto during the 2022 season in which he finished with a 2.77 ERA in 35 games which included a total of 25 strikeouts.
Unfortunately since then, Pop has been unable to finish a season with an ERA below 5.00 which is why many believed that his time in the MLB was done but it looks like the Cubs though otherwise.
Hopefully Pop will find a way to build his game back up in Chicago as he is only 28 years old and could still have a lengthy career ahead of him.
