Toronto Blue Jays broadcaster and former catcher Joe Siddall recently spoke with Jays Journal and spoke on Kevin Gausman's making some interesting comments.
Joe Siddall comments on Blue Jays pitcher Kevin Gausman's game
"That's an excellent question. I mean, that's a broad scope because I could talk to Kevin Gausman about why he used the fastball more at the bottom of the zone to set up his splitter in Colorado and why, for example." -Siddall
The Blue Jays broadcaster also made an interesting comment on how Gausman only really has two pitches in his arsenal which can been seen as a bit of a strange comment.
"He stands out because he's a guy who throws mainly two pitches." -Siddall
Siddall finished by stating that he has a way of peppering the bottom of the zone which sometimes works out for him but other times opposing players will tee off on him.
"He'll pepper the bottom of the zone with it to keep hitters honest because he feels like a lot of hitters will just lay off any low pitch because they think it's a splitter. Then there are also games where he'll do it, and guys will tee off on him." -Siddall
These comments from Siddall can be seen as a bit odd since he starts off by stating that he has learned the most from Gausman but then follows it up with a few backhanded compliments.
Gausman has had a strange season where he started off in quite the rough patch but has since been playing a lot better as his ERA is currently at 3.85 in 135.2 innings pitched this season with 135 strikeouts and an 8-8 record.
Hopefully Gausman doesn't read too much into these comments by Siddall and only takes the good from it.
