The Toronto Blue Jays had a tough loss yesterday against the Minnesota Twins in which Jeff Hoffman blew the game for Toronto and afterwards John Schneider spoke on his future as the team's closer.

There has been rumors all season long that the Blue Jays might change closers as Hoffman has dealt with some big consistency issues throughout the year.

John Schneider speaks on keeping Jeff Hoffman as their closer

Hoffman had a very tough night yesterday as he only pitched 0.2 innings, giving up up 3 hits, 4 earned runs and walking one batter while striking out none and blowing another save.
After the game Schneider spoke to reporter's about Hoffman's future as the team's closer stating that it is a tough job to have and despite his struggles, he will continue to be used in tough situation and they want him going in to save a game.
«Hoff's been so good for us,» the manager said. «The closer's role is scrutinized like my role, like a couple different roles in this game and that comes with it, but when he's available and we want to save a game, I'm going to bring him in. He's shown he can do it.» -Schneider

Schneider added that he believes that Hoffman's homerun issue is contributed to lapses in his command which is when he gives up big hits but it looks like he is not too worried about that.
"With the playoffs approaching, the Blue Jays need to find a way to address Hoffman's home run issues. Afterwards, Schneider said lapses in command have contributed to those big hits - but he made it clear he'll continue going to Hoffman in big spots." - Nicholson-Smith

When looking at Hoffman's overall numbers this season, they are clearly not where the team wanted him to be when they signed him to a three year deal in the off-season but they are not terrible either.
So far this season, Hoffman has a 4.77 ERA in 54.2 innings pitched with 74 strikeouts and an 8-5 record which includes 28 saves in 57 games.
Toronto looks like they will be sticking with Hoffman as their closer for now but there is still a lot of time left in the season and things can still change.
