The Toronto Blue JaysToronto Blue Jays have now added to their starting rotation and as they continue to look to add more, Jose Berrios seems to be the main target to be moved.
The Blue Jays announced a massive move last night when they signed one of the top free agents available in free agent pitcher Dylan Cease.
Jose Berrios likely to be traded after latest reports
As of right now, the Blue Jays weakest link in their starting rotation is without a doubt Berrios who seems to be on his way out according to recent reports.
The Blue Jays are still actively looking to add another pitcher to their starting rotation which is why trading Berrios seems like it will happen as it will clear up a rotation spot and give them access to more money to spend.
"A trade could open the money and roster space for a more significant addition, too. They'd have a candidate in Berrios,» Bannon wrote for The Athletic on November 27, 2025. «While Berrios was one of baseball's most reliable starters for his entire career, the righty posted a 4.17 ERA in 2025, suffered an elbow injury, and lost his rotation spot at the end of the year. Owed $18.7 million in 2026 before a player opt-out, the Jays could look to move Berrios after four years in Toronto." -Bannon
The issue with trading Berrios is that after his struggles last season combined with his salary which will be $18.7 million next season, he will not be easy to move.
The Blue Jays might need to bite the bullet of this even if they do not get much in return since they will end up with way too many starting pitchers if they just sign one more.
There is always the option to put Berrios in the bullpen next season but that would be a lot of money for a relief pitcher plus he made it quite clear last season that he was not too happy when he was moved there in September.
