The Toronto Blue Jays experience with Max Scherzer has definitely been a bad one and many believe that he might end up being traded at the deadline.
Trade offer announced that would send Max Scherzer to the New York Yankees
Since it has not been a pretty experience for
Scherzer in Toronto, it might actually make sense for them to trade him at the deadline if they can find a way to get a younger starting pitcher in return.
In a recent report, it was suggested that the New York Yankees would be very interested in acquiring Scherzer at the deadline to improve their starting rotation which has had issues similar to those in Toronto since Gerrit Cole went down for the season.
"The Yankees need another rotation arm, and Scherzer checks plenty of boxes," Elman wrote. "He'll likely come cheap, especially given his age and one-year, $15.5 million contract. Although Scherzer has a full no-trade clause, pitching for a contender sounds preferable to sticking with a team focusing on 2026." -Elman
The main issue with this is not that the Blue Jays would trade Scherzer but it is the fact that they would never send them to a divisional rival when they are currently battling for a Wild Card spot and could face the Yankees in the playoffs.
Additionally, if the Blue Jays were to trade Scherzer they would ideally need to get a pitcher in return since they are currently rolling with four starting pitchers and it has been one of their biggest problems this season.
On top of that, all of this might not even be possible if Scherzer does not return from his injury this season since no team will take a chance on an old pitcher who can no longer pitch.
All of this seems very far fetched but regardless, the first step in all of this is that Scherzer needs to return to the field.
