Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Erik Swanson announced early this morning on social media that he has decided to retire.
Blue Jays pitcher Erik Swanson announces his retirement
Earlier this morning, Swanson decided to get on Instagram and posted a long message dedicated to fans in which he spoke about his career and how grateful he is to have pitched in the MLB for 12 seasons.
Swanson made sure to thank all of his teammates from over the years, the fans, the coaches and everyone that played a part in his journey in baseball, not just the MLB.

This decision comes as a bit of a surprise since Swanson has been looking for a new contract since getting let go by the
Blue Jays but at the same time would have likely been able to find a deal this off-season even if it was just a minor league one.
Swanson finished with a career 4.20 ERA in 266 innings pitched to go along with a 11-16 record and 281 strike outs in is with two MLB teams in the Seattle Mariners and Blue Jays.
The best season of Swanson's career came in 2022 when playing in Seattle where he finished with a 1.68 ERA in 53.2 innings pitched and 70 strike outs.
Due to some injury troubles over the last couple of years, Swanson likely felt like he simply could not pitch at the same level anymore which was evident this past season when he put up a 15.19 ERA for the Blue Jays before being released.
Fans from both Seattle and Toronto wish Swanson nothing but the best in this next chapter of his life.
