The Blue Jays fell 7-4 to the Orioles Friday, and a familiar name remains without a team.

Chad Green, released by Toronto during the middle of last season, is still a free agent this deep into the year.

MLB.com confirmed the original move plainly back on Aug. 3, 2025: "Toronto Blue Jays released RHP Chad Green."

The 35-year-old is coming off a season where he went 3-2 with a 5.56 ERA across 45 games, numbers that likely haven't helped his market this winter.

Whether another club takes a flier on him before his career winds down entirely remains a genuine question.

Looking back at Green's stint with the Blue Jays

Green spent parts of three seasons in Toronto, going 10-8 with a 4.38 ERA across 110 games.

He appeared in one MLB playoff game for the organization during the 2023 season, a small but real piece of the franchise's postseason history.

Before Toronto, Green built his career with the Yankees, drafted in the 11th round back in 2013.

He spent his first seven seasons in pinstripes, appearing in 18 playoff games during that stretch, a far more extensive postseason résumé than what came later.

That contrast, extensive Yankees playoff experience versus a single Blue Jays postseason appearance, reflects how his role and effectiveness shifted as his career progressed.

Meanwhile, Toronto's current roster is dealing with its own struggles. Friday's loss dropped the Blue Jays to 73-75, fourth place in the AL East through 148 games.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was tagged out at first base by Pete Alonso in the first inning, part of a rough night that continued the offense's uneven stretch.

For Green, the wait for a new opportunity continues. For Toronto, every remaining game now carries direct weight in a wild-card race that's nowhere near settled.
